Environmental Policy
At Diverse we are committed to ensuring we have the least possible impact on the environment as possible. We are constantly improving our recyclable and environmentally friendly sourcing to try and meet these goals.
However, we must stress that our packaging does need to meet minimum functional standards and we have a minimum strength and quality directive which must be met. Where the use of a recycled material would compromise this and no alternative available we would have to use a non-recycled material.
We are currently reviewing all aspects of our business and the way we operate to see where further improvements can be made.
Sourcing Responsibly
Diverse Hampers are committed to responsible sourcing. We always take a long term view to working with suppliers and aim to develop a mutually beneficial partnership. We do ask that our basic code of practise is adhered to.
We have a long term vision to source only UK manufactured packaging products. The industry currently sources many products from overseas, mainly the Far East. It is our aim to encourage UK manufacture.
Our packaging products:
Wood
We source from a UK company who are committed to ensuring that all timber used in the course of its business is sourced with the least possible damage to the natural environment. Importantly, no tropical hardwoods are used in any of the products. Wooden products from European suppliers use timber from verifiable sources that meet the minimum standards of good forest management. Wooden products from China are made from raw materials sourced locally or from Russia. The majority of wood suppliers that they use conform to international standards and supply FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certificates to verify forest management.
The Forest Stewardship Council is an independent, not for profit, non governmental organisation providing standards, trademark assurance and accreditation services for responsible forestry. For more information, visit www.fsc-uk.org
Card-Cardboard Boxes
Wherever possible, our card supplier uses recycled material or material with a high recycled content. Our main ‘Hamper Tower’ box supplier states ‘our boxes are made from largely recycled material and are 100% recyclable’.
Paper Shred
Our coloured shred is produced in the UK and is 100% recyclable. In addition, the following colours are made from 100% recycled raw materials – Natural, Cobalt, Cognac and Black. All the other colours are made from virgin material but wherever possible, colours will be moved on to re cycled raw material if and when it becomes available.
Jute
Jute products are derived from a sustainable plant which is farmed extensively in India and Bangladesh. Like Wicker, Jute products tend to be made by villagers within the area where cultivation takes place. Part finished and finished orders are then sent to a distributor who will finish and pack the goods for export. 100% Jute bags are both reusable and bio-degradable. We do have a jute bag with plastic windows and these are currently causing a problem. Whilst they can obviously be reused, the recycling aspect is more complicated and our supplier is currently trying to source an environmentally friendly alternative to the clear plastic window.
General practice
Recycling
We have recycling bins in which we collect paper, glass and cardboard. Any unusable product in a glass container is discarded and glass recycled. All paper waste from the offices is recycled. Any damaged cardboard product is recycled.
Office Policies
Most of our business is conducted using email and we operate a ‘think before you print’ policy on emails.
All lighting in our premises is switched off every night and all computer workstations are shut down.
